What I'm All About:

I grow cut flowers for brides and florists, but I also blog my gardening adventures as a commercial and home gardener. I primarily grow perennials in an effort to create a habitat for bees, birds, butterflies and other critters, but I also grow some favorite annuals every year from purchased or saved seed (or both!). In these pages you will find a mixture of advice, rants, growing information for flowers and herbs, links and resources, photo albums, and everything in between.

I live in Batesville, Mississippi, Zone 7B, so what I do in my garden may not necessarily work for you.

If there is anything you would like to see added to the site or have any gardening questions you think I can answer, please feel free to send me an e-mail. See my About me page for more info.

As I sit and peruse seed catalogs, I think about several things.  As an avid  home gardener, I want to experiment with growing as many things as I can from seed, both in the greenhouse and through direct sowing. As a commercial gardener, I try to maximize my space and plant only things that will be [...]

Since I posted my Blogging Goals for 2010, I thought I’d follow up with my gardening goals as well.
I have several large projects I’m working on simultaneously. One woman with a only a machete, a few hand tools and a limited budget probably should not be so ambitious. My dad has promised to borrow a [...]

Like most gardeners, I think one or two seasons ahead.  Though I don’t usually care what colors are “popular” in my own gardens, I like to keep up with trends because I service the wedding market.
Pantone releases a fashion color report for every season and I eagerly take a look at the Spring report each [...]

**I’m including this as part of a series about growing your own wedding flowers, but the information can be applied to any flower bed.
If you really want to grow spectacular flowers, preparing the growing area (beds) ahead of time will make a huge difference in the long run. If you are in an area that [...]

After being off work for a few days, I’m not sure how quickly I’ll get back into the groove. I’m glad to have a job, but I’d much rather spend my days working in the greenhouse – especially today. The rain is pouring and it’s chilly. I don’t need to lie in bed [...]

As a spinoff from Green Weddings, I decided to offer some advice about growing your own wedding flowers. After you decide on a date, do some research about what will be blooming in your area during the month of your wedding. Growing your own flowers does require some flexibility, as you are at the mercy [...]

As I gear up for selling fresh herbs and cut flowers, I have been planning several beds. I have one herb bed, and one cutting bed that I’m working on this week. If you haven’t already tried the Garden Planner at Better Homes and Gardens, give it a shot. It’s a lot of fun! Here [...]
