Like most gardeners, I think one or two seasons ahead. Though I don’t usually care what colors are “popular” in my own gardens, I like to keep up with trends because I service the wedding market.
Pantone releases a fashion color report for every season and I eagerly take a look at the Spring report each winter and drool over the beautiful colors. Here’s the Spring 2010 report. It’s a pretty sizeable PDF, so be prepared.
Turquoise, Tomato Puree, Fusion Coral, Violet, Tuscany, Aurora, Amparo Blue, Pink Champagne, Dried Herb and Eucalyptus are on the menu for this Spring. I have a thing for bright, clear colors, so this palette is very pleasing to my eye. Rather than try to describe these colors, I’ll let you take a look. I have an old chair missing the seat that I’ve been wanting to paint turquoise and put a basket of violet petunias in for several years. This is the perfect excuse!
What colors are you planning to use for the first time in your Spring gardens?

Excellent! I’m glad someone else besides me looks at the Pantone report. Thanks for the comment!

I’ll be using the same old colors, they’ll just have new names. Pineapple Sage and Knockout Roses together will masquerade as ‘Tomato Puree.’
