I have bulbs to plant and brush to clear, so I was terribly disappointed when it rained all weekend.  I usually don’t mind working in the rain if it’s just a drizzle and the weather is warm.  That was not the case.

Winter here isn’t frothy with snow, but it does get cold by my standards. And muddy. I’m not a winter time kinda girl, so this time of year turns me into a curmudgeon.  On the bright side, I’m nearly done with my Christmas shopping!  I also have most of my perennials sown that I plan to grow for the spring and summer. I’m a little late on some of them, but I expect many of them will flower before the end of summer. They are growing very well in the 50-70 degree greenhouse. My winter annuals are also doing very well under plastic and will be lush and healthy when it’s time to plant them out.

It’s dark when I get off work, so my outdoor activities are confined to the weekends and the odd half day I take off here and there.   I can do some work in the greenhouse during the evenings, so it’s not all bad.

Who else spent the weekend indoors wishing they were outside in the garden?

i spent the weekend trying to get ready for Christmas -I am way behind. I finally bought the last gift today. Still have wrapping to do. I have about 30 people coming to my house the day after Christmas, and I still have painting to do! Oh, and I do have a full time job. But I try not to stress – what gets done gets done. The rest wasn’t important. I usually take a break from actual gardening till January. Then there’s lots to do, so I hope I’m finished with house painting by then.

I’m not completely done shopping yet. My goal was to be done before Thanksgiving, but that didn’t happen. I have several beds to make, and those need to be installed and winter over so the compost can rot before I plant anything in it. There’s never a lack of things to do here. Whether it be cleanup, weeding, clearing brush or making more flower beds, it doesn’t seem to end. I also have winter annuals in the greenhouse for early spring, so that’s a three-time-a-day thing. I have to check and make sure they aren’t too hot, too dry, etc.

I’m not really worried about most of that right now. If it gets done it gets done. My little brother is in Iraq, and is coming home for Christmas on leave. That’s all I’m worried about right now.
