I admit it. I steal leaves. Well, stealing is a harsh word. Once people put trash out by the curb it becomes public property. Being a member of the public, I have no qualms about loading the back of my truck with neatly bagged leaves. It’s a great way to get extra compost and mulch. Even if I tried I couldn’t get 20 huge bags of leaves from my yard.
I couldn’t believe my luck this morning when I drove into work. I saw this HUGE pile of bagged leaves on the curb, just waiting for me to take them home. I was really nervous because the City picks up yard debris on Mondays. Do they compost them? No. Yard waste goes straight into the county landfill where it does absolutely nothing but sit there for years.
I was only able to fit two bags in my trunk, so I switched vehicles during lunch and came back with a long-wheel base pickup. I still had to leave about five bags behind. At least I know that I’m putting them to good use. I think from now on Sunday evenings are going to be leaf hunting time. If people only knew what they were throwing away…

These are the 12 bags I came home with. Inside there’s a mix of magnolia, cypress and oak leaves.
